Candi Ijo

Candi Ijo is one of the hidden gems in Sleman Regency, Yogyakarta. Built in the 9th–10th century, this Hindu temple complex sits on the highest hilltop among Yogyakarta’s ancient temples, making it not only historically significant but also scenically rewarding.

Unlike the famous Prambanan Temple, Candi Ijo offers a much quieter atmosphere—perfect for visitors who prefer exploring heritage sites without the crowd. The temple itself consists of a main shrine and several smaller ancillary temples, showcasing intricate carvings and ancient architecture.

From its elevated terraces, visitors are treated to sweeping views of lush rice fields, villages, and even the cityscape in the distance. One of the best moments to visit is during sunset, when the temple turns into a magical silhouette against the warm sky, making it a photographer’s favorite spot.
